WHO WE ARE:
Health Matters Seminars is an NCBTMB Approved Provider of both “live” and “home school” Continuing Education for licensed massage therapists.

More important than the CE Hours, our broad-based, structured program is the launch-pad for therapists to advance their careers into the specialization of clinical or medical massage as true, allied health-care professionals providing cost-effective, specific manual therapy for the full range of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.

Our extensive program teaches the client-centered assessments, treatments and rehabilitation, the critical thinking, and the clinical standards and processes by which massage therapists can specifically target and most effectively treat client pain and dysfunction with soft tissue manipulation and client education that supports and enhances a doctor's care.

David Morin and Co-Author Wanita Thompson, RN developed this extensive curriculum throughout their combined 80 years studying biomechanics and massage, as practicing specialists in Clinical or Medical Massage, and through their partnership to establish the first Registered Massage Therapy School in Southern New Mexico in 1987.

Their intention: to fill that gap between basic massage therapy, as it is typically practiced in the US, and the more advanced application of Massage Therapy as a clinical specialization within the medical establishment.

Standardization of Massage Therapy as a clinical specialty within the US Healthcare System has yet to be established and is much warranted.



David and Wanita have trained with massage legends Benny Vaughn ATC, LMT, Paul St. John LMT, NMT and Norway’s Ola Grimsby PT, and studied the work of Dr. Raymond Nimmo DC, Dr. Leon Chaitow DO, ND, and Dr. Janet Travell MD (who developed modern Trigger Point Therapy).

David has been on the cutting edge of Clinical Massage Therapy and Sports Injury Rehabilitation, treating athletes at two Olympic Games.

Wanita integrates her extensive teaching background with her unique experience as a former Registered Nurse and Licensed Midwife.

Sam Small is an award-winning filmmaker and educator who also has advanced arthritis. Provenance led Sam to receive massage therapy from David, and he immediately recognized the value of David's extremely thorough clinical approach. Together they took the entire curriculum that David was teaching across 12-days of live seminars and transformed it into an online, video-based Masterclass.

Today, thousands of therapists worldwide apply the Clinical Model for Massage that David and Wanita pioneered to the great benefit of their clients and communities.

David and Wanita were recognized for their lifetime contribution to the field of massage this past spring at the World Massage Festival.  



ONLINE MASTERCLASS:
In 2015 we launched our online Masterclass as a crowdfunding campaign. We pre-sold over 80 registrations and the proceeds paid for the massive amount of video editing and programming needed to deliver the online course.

Nearly 1000 students have participated since then, each earning a Certificate of Achievement for 72 NCBTMB approved “Home Study” CE Hours.

Roughly 70% of our students cannot travel to take live classes. For them especially, the online format has proven to be a real game-changer.

Based on over 2000 course evaluations collected for the NCBTMB, our students consistently report that they do find our online Masterclass as a stand-alone course is indeed comprehensive and sufficient for them to confidently and credibly advance their practices, and find success as specialists in Medical/Clinical Massage Therapy.

The entire course becomes a lifetime asset. We also offer an online Facebook discussion group where all our students get to interact directly with David and Wanita, and each other.



LIVE TECHNIQUES INTENSIVES:
David still does offer a live 4-day Techniques Intensive, with separate tuition not included here, that only graduates of the online Masterclass are eligible to take. He covers the same techniques and skills that are taught online using video, just done live and interactive. We call it “the icing on the cake” and it is optional for those who can travel. COVID-19 just forced us to cancel the class we had scheduled for April. It’s now scheduled for Oct in Albuquerque New Mexico. Hopefully we’ll all have re-emerged by then.

The 4-Day techniques Intensive earns students an additional Certificate of Achievement for 28 “Live” CE hours. Only in this live setting can David work one-on-one to evaluate students’ skills and application of the techniques, only then can he add to their Certificates of Achievement his own Certification in Medical Massage Therapy, which is backed by his national reputation as an educator in the massage industry. 



ACCELERATED ONLINE STUDY:
Our online Masterclass is directed, yet self-paced. At the recommended 5 hours a week of study and practice, students can easily complete our six 40-question, online, open-book tests in five months’ time.

By dedicating more time to their study of the hundreds of online videos and lessons in our 350 page illustrated course manual, we have had students power through the program in as little as five weeks. And that, of course, is the opportunity that is in front of us today, as we all shelter at home for the foreseeable future.

The standard tuition for our online Masterclass is $1,400. With COVID-19, we’ve discounted our tuition by 40%, down to $840, the lowest we can go and still stay afloat ourselves. 

And still, we understand hearing from so many prospective students that, even though they recognize the value of taking our course, at this time especially, even our 40% reduced tuition is beyond their reach.

THERAPIST BURN-OUT
Another unique feature of this program is that the techniques we teach do not at all rely on the therapist using their thumbs, or even to be standing to give treatment. David himself is now 78 and had no choice when his own thumbs blew out years ago but to modify everything he did to incorporate Thumbsavers that he evolved from Dr. Raymond Nimmo’s design, and which we have manufactured for our students.



We also teach therapists to make great use a rolling stool to deliver treatments seated and pull more than constantly pushing in order to save their backs and shoulders, to give treatments using no or little oil to clients who do not disrobe but rather stay clothes-on, and to maximize treating clients in the side-lying position, propped up with pillows to facilitate putting muscles on slack for superior penetration.

Our entire approach differs significantly from what is typically taught in massage schools, and is particularly valuable for mature therapists who are experiencing diminished physical capacity and who are particularly vulnerable to repetitive use injuries that prematurely end so many massage therapy careers.

Or program allows experienced therapists to continue serving their communities at a significantly higher level, for as long as they choose to practice. That’s an added bonus to our courses that so many of our students so greatly appreciate.
